Learn his abilities, best runes, and other tips to master the Shadow Assassin
One of the newest champions who debuted in League of Legends: Wild Rift Season 7 Patch 3.5 is Kayn, the Shadow Assassin. Kayn is a versatile champion that can be built in many different ways. He can be played as a Jungler, Assassin, or even a Bruiser. This guide will look at the best ways to build and play Kayn in each form, the best lane, and his pros and cons.
We will also give you a brief overview of Kayn’s abilities, runes, and spells. By the end of this guide, you will know everything about Kayn to start playing him in Wild Rift.
Kayn, Shadow Assassin’s Abilities
Passive – The Darkin Scythe
The Darkin Scythe is Kayn’s passive ability to choose between the Darkin: Rhaast or the Shadow Assassin. Kayn gains a charge upon attacking champions. Attacking melee champions increases the Darkin side, while ranged champions charge Shadow assassin. You can check the bar right below your HP bar once fully charged. The form choice is permanent throughout the game, so you must choose wisely according to your team’s needs.
In his Darkin form, Kayn will heal each time he damages a champion. On the other hand, his Shadow Assassin will deal more burst damage.
First Ability – Reaping Slash
Kayn dashes in the target enemy’s direction and deals 70 physical damage, then spins his scythe, dealing additional 70 physical damage. Kayn’s damage is increased if he is in his Darkin form and deals an additional 35 physical damage to minions and monsters.
Second Ability – Blade’s Reach
Kayn swipes his scythe upward, dealing 90 physical damage and slowing the enemy target.
Kayn can move using this ability and increase its range in his Shadow Assassin form, while in Darkin form, his Blade Reach knocks up the enemy target.
Third Ability – Shadow Step
In Shadow Assassin form, Kayn can walk through terrains, gain movement speed, and become immune to slows. The cooldown also reduces to 9 seconds, while in Darkin form, Kayn can regain a portion of his health upon walking through terrains
Ultimate – Umbral Trespass
Kayn disappears and dashes at the marked enemy champion. Kayn infests an enemy for a few seconds, becoming untargetable. When the infestation ends, the target is dealt Physical damage. You can recast this ability early to end the infestation, deal damage quickly, and jump straight back out.
Kayn gains an ability range and exit distance bonus in Shadow Assassin form and resets Darkin Scythe’s cooldown while dealing more damage equal to a percentage of their max health and heals him simultaneously in Darkin form.
Best Lane For Kayn
Kayn can roam around the map quickly, so taking the jungle lane to get to level five as fast as possible should be the top priority, along with map control objectives. Remember that Kayn is not the most powerful champion in the early game, so just stick to the objectives to quickly get your transformation.
Best Item Build For Each Form
Kayn’s build must focus on Physical items, HP, Armor Penetration, and Armor items that keep him strong in the game and farm faster.
Shadow Assassin Form
We highly recommend using lethality and attack damage items in the Shadow Assassin form. Remember that this build is vulnerable to burst damage, so be aware of your positioning and ambushes.
- Youmuu’s Ghostblade
- Edge of night
- Serylda’s Grudge
- Protobelt Enchant
- Serylda’s Grudge
- Death’s Dance
- Guardian Angel
Darkin Form
For Darkin form, we advise building items that grant damage, health, and armor.
- Black Cleaver
- Divine Sunderer
- Stoneplate Enchant
- Sterak’s Gage
- Death’s Dance
- Guardian Angel

Skill Order
For Kayn, follow this order to level up his skills:
First: Skill 1 (Reaping Slash).
Second: Skill 2 (Blade’s Reach).

The plan is to max out Skill 1 first, followed by Skill 2, and finally, focus on Skill 3. Upgrade his Ultimate (Umbral Trespass) whenever possible.
