Starting November 18, League of Legends accounts tied to Garena have to be linked to the player’s Riot account. This is in relation to Riot establishing servers for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics in Southeast Asia (SEA).

In this article, we will guide you through migrating your League of Legends account from Garena to Riot.

Before You Link Your Account…

Riot stated that accounts should have some activity or data progression. This means that the account to be migrated has champion mastery, ranked games, or purchased content like skins, Riot Points (RP), etc. This is to ensure that there is something in the account that can be migrated from the Garena account to the Riot account.

The Garena account should also be on the same server as the Riot account. However, if the player has a new Riot account with no progression(s), their region will default to the region stated in their Garena account when linking the two accounts. To check your Riot League server, just log in from the Riot client, and it will show up in the top right corner under your Summoner’s Name (in-game name). The server detail will appear in this format: “Online – [Server region].” So, if you’re in North America, for example, it will show up as “Online – NA.”

To check your Garena server region, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Garena client.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Find your region under “General.” Note: IP and server region are not always the same. If your IP is in the Philippines, and the listed server region in your Garena account is Singapore, then your server is Singapore.

Important note: Permanently banned accounts are not eligible for account migration.

Important Reminders

Here are some important reminders for players wishing to migrate and link their Garena account to their Riot account.

  1. The migration will start on November 18.
  2. A temporary progression freeze will be implemented for a few days in early January 2023. Any progression through ranked or purchases made will not count post-migration.
  3. Riot League SEA servers will be online by January 2023.
  4. The new Season will start mid-January 2023.
  5. Permanently banned accounts are not eligible for account migration.
