Ah, Genshin Impact – the game that just keeps on giving. From its stunning visuals to its engaging storyline and characters, it’s no wonder it has become one of the most beloved games around. The ability to pull new characters, level them up, and build their elemental arsenal makes Genshin Impact a must-play for any RPG fan. But what truly takes the experience to the next level is the chance to unlock your favourite characters’ constellations and give them abilities beyond what you expect.
However, if you’ve been a long-time fan of the game, you know that constellations aren’t always your friend. While they can provide you with amazing bonuses and new skill mechanics, these bonuses can sometimes be more of a hindrance than a help. What’s more, is that constellations are permanently active once you’ve unlocked them – so you have to be careful before you decide to take the plunge. Let’s take a look at some of the constellations you should avoid unlocking, as they can do more harm than good to your character.
1. C4 Tartaglia
Tartaglia, or Childe, is the very first hydro character introduced in one of Genshin Impact’s early banners. He soon became a favourite of many players due to his unique ability to switch between melee and ranged stances. His constellations provide some strong bonuses like increased cooldowns and additional damage. However, depending on your team composition, Tartaglia’s C4 constellation can be both a blessing and a curse.
The constellation, Abyssal Mayhem: Hydrospout basically deals additional hydro damage to your opponents every four seconds. While that sounds like a significant damage boost on its own, it can mess up your elemental reactions, which is a crucial mechanic in most battles. Those additional hydro ticks can actually remove existing elements on enemies. So if you’re gearing up for some big vaporize damage with your pyro character, it’s almost impossible to pull off with Tartaglia’s C4 constellation active.
2. C6 Bennett
Of course, what kind of list would this be without the unluckiest character in the game? Bennett has been hailed as one of the best supports in Genshin Impact due to his impressive healing ability and the attack bonus he provides with his elemental burst. He can easily fit in any elemental composition due to the versatility of his kit. However, his infamous C6 constellation, Fire Ventures with Me, can easily ruin your team’s damage output.
The constellation allows Bennett to provide 15% additional pyro damage to his team. In turn, your active characters’ attacks will deal purely pyro damage, regardless of their original elemental alignment. This ability applies to all sword, claymore, and polearm-wielding characters. If you’re using a pyro main DPS like Diluc or Klee, then Bennett’s constellation is a godsend to your team. However, if your main DPS relies on other elemental attributes like Electro, Dendro, Geo, or physical, then this constellation can be a detriment to your team’s overall damage output.
3. C6 Zhongli
Zhongli’s unique ability to summon Stone Steles and turn enemies to stone is always a welcome addition to any team composition. He’s also considered to be the best shielder in the game, capable of providing a huge amount of defence to his team. However, his C6 constellation, Chrysos, Bounty of Dominator, is a great support skill that works well with every character in Genshin Impact except for one–Hu Tao.
Zhongli’s C6 constellation converts incoming damage to his stone steles into HP, effectively healing your characters. This can render Hu Tao’s elemental burst ineffective as it relies on how Hu Tao’s HP is. The closer Hu Tao is to dying, the more damage she deals with through her ultimate skill. But with Zhongli’s Stone Steles passively providing some good healing, Hu Tao won’t be able to deal as much damage as she normally would. So if you’re using Hu Tao as your main DPS, it’s best to avoid Zhongli’s C6 constellation.
4. C6 Geo Traveller
Can you believe that your main character, who you’ve been building since the start of the game, has one of the worst constellations in the game? Whether you have Aether or Lumine, you might want to reconsider unlocking the C6 constellation for your geo alignment. As you all know, the Traveller’s geo talents rely on summoning a meteorite on the ground and dealing AOE damage. Upon reaching C2, your meteorite will explode after a few seconds, dealing additional damage to surrounding enemies. However, the Traveller’s C6 constellation, Everlasting Boulder, delays this explosion by another 10 seconds.
Geo Traveller’s meteorites can be quite formidable if you pair them with Zhongli’s Stone Steles as it resonates with any geo constructs, making them deal pulsing damage over time. However, without Zhongli’s abilities, your Geo Traveller relies more on the damage the exploding meteorites provide. With the C6 constellation delaying the explosion, it’s not as effective as it could be.
Genshin Impact players should be wary of these constellations. While none of them are inherently bad or useless, some may not be as effective as other constellations depending on your playstyle and composition. So if you’re planning to build a team that has great elemental harmony, make sure you consider each character’s constellation before unlocking them to maximize your team’s potential.
