This year may be one of the most challenging in recent times, but thanks to mobile games, it managed to keep us in check and still ecstatic to play. Gaming companies have constantly tapped celebrity superstars and other global figures to serve as ambassadors for their respective titles. Let’s take a look back at some of the best that made 2020 more worthwhile and interesting.
PUBG Mobile x BlackPink
Blackpink in your area! K-pop fever hit a new high when Korean girl band superstars BlackPink invaded the PUBG Universe. BLINKS were in for a treat as Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé set up their own PUBG Mobile game accounts to play and interact with fans. A BlackPink-themed event highlighted the collaboration, from the game lobby music playing the group’s latest project “The Album”, the collaboration plane (all-decked in pink!) and airdrop, and permanent outfits like the Killer Cadet Set and Adorable Panda Suit up for grabs. Players also had the chance to win an autographed version of the group’s latest album just by completing in-game missions. How you like that?
Free Fire x Money Heist
From Booyah to Bella Ciao, Free Fire collaborating with Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) is the ultimate mashup that gamers deserved. Riding high with the global success of the hit heist crime drama TV series, the event had players gearing up for Plan Bermuda announcementd engaging in a ‘Money Printing’ event to capture exceptional rewards. The new game mode is a race against time as teams go neck and neck to snag the bigger loot. Also, what’s a major Free Fire collab without an awesome collection? Players had the chance to dress their characters in iconic red jumpsuit threads based on the popular Netflix series.
Legends of Runeterra and Wild Rift x K/DA
This had the BLADES community shouting for joy! Riot Games’ digital card game launched a limited-time event featuring the virtual band group K/DA as they took over the K/DA ALL OUT Event. Players get access to exclusive cards and unlock special spells packed with extraordinary animations, with each spell being highlighted by a brief performance from K/DA members. Those who level up to the highest via the K/DA Event pass had the chance to unlock the coveted K/DA Card Backs Signature Edition, personally signed by K/DA members themselves.
The League’s popular girl band also made its debut in the Wild Rift stage. The group’s EP called ALL OUT, had its album theme carried over to the champions’ new skin line. Lot’s of premium rewards were also up for grabs just by completing missions. Indeed, Wild Rift made a venue worthy of K/DA/
Free Fire x DJ KSHMR
Give one more round of applause to Garena for this fantastic partnership! The latter part of 2020 saw Free Fire announcing a global partnership with KSHMR, an American DJ and music producer of Indian descent. The crossover brought a unique in-game character, K, to the already diverse Free Fire roster. A professor and jiu-jitsu expert, K’s ability called ‘Master of All’ focuses on EP regeneration. And that’s not it. What’s a collab with a DJ without a new song right? KSHMR also brought an exclusive song entitled “One More Round” to highlight this collaborative effort.
Mobile Legends x Manny Pacquiao
Moonton had its own knockout punch to cap off 2020 by having Filipino world boxing champion and senator Manny Pacquiao as its newest global ambassador in the Philippines. Manny is set to promote MLBB as a very exciting sport. To commemorate the partnership, the game will be introducing a new character inspired by the boxing icon, a hero named Paquito.
