In the post-apocalyptic world of Undawn, players test their skill and wit and give their all in a battle for survival. And what’s a battle without fearsome and powerful weapons? In this article, we’ll review Undawn’s weapon system to help you make better choices and gain the winning edge. If you’re a new Raven, you can check our comprehensive beginner’s guide here.
Weapon types in Undawn
Undawn’s weapon system has three main categories: Melee, Firearms, and Heavy Weapons. You can equip one of each type at any given time to use in different situations:
- Melee – players have two options for Melee-type weapons. The first is the Machete, which you’ll obtain in the game’s tutorial. The second is integrated elemental weapons, which can be crafted in the game’s later stages. As the name says, this weapon type is imbued with elements that increase your damage and character rating.
- Firearms – weapons equipped in the firearms slot are generally well-rounded, versatile guns you can use in any situation. High-capacity magazines and fire rates make assault rifles and submachine guns the best firearm options, while the sniper rifle’s accuracy and range make it a close second.
- Heavy weapons – players can whip out the big guns when facing large hoards of flesh-crazed zombies. At Level 30, players can unlock Heavy weapons and access a new range of weapons with large AOE, damage, and greater magazine capacities. The M134 Heavy Machine Gun and M32 Grenade Launcher are the first ones that come to mind when choosing a high-impact heavy weapon.
How to keep your weapons in top shape
Like in the real world, you must also tend to your tools regularly in Undawn to ensure they’re always in top shape. Players are presented with several options to maintain and upgrade their weapons so that they can keep up with the challenges in this zombie-infested world:
- Repairs – weapons in Undawn have a durability level you should always keep track of. When a weapon’s durability level drops, you can go to the Workbench in your Homestead to craft Repair Parts and repair your weapon on the Equipment Repair Table.
- Enhancements – weapon enhancements are a quick and easy way to increase your weapon’s killing power. Remember to stock up on enhancement materials to upgrade weapon stats when needed.
- Equipping accessories – you also have the option to equip different weapon attachments in Undawn. Unlike weapon enhancements, which only affect damage and rating, accessories upgrade the weapon’s power, stability, range, fire rate, and magazine capacity. Accessories like the red dot, firearm muzzle, and higher-level magazines can be crafted at the Crafting Bench.
- Polishing – similar to weapon enhancements, weapon polishing increases the weapon’s rating and damage but on a greater level. It makes use of the Silicon Carbide Particles you gain from quests and events.
Undawn’s weapon system is fairly simple and easy to grasp, but what makes it interesting, challenging, and fun to play is the amount of progression options and the effort required to ensure everything runs efficiently and up to par.
