Natlan’s lush plateaus and wondrous canyons are enough to excite any Traveller. However, HoYoverse went above and beyond to ensure we have more fun exploring the Pyro region. The new Saurian Indwelling mechanic in Genshin Impact Version 5.0 will give you a newfound love for exploration as it introduces new ways to navigate the breathtaking landscapes of Natlan. This quirky addition lets you traverse the lands as Saurians, opening up a world of possibilities for swimming, climbing, and burrowing through the terrain. Join us as we cover everything about this playful twist, Traveller!

What are Natlan’s Saurians?

Saurians are quirky, dinosaur-like creatures that roam the lands of Natlan and live alongside its tribes. These ancient beasts aren’t your typical mounts—they’re more like living vehicles you can use to interact with Natlan’s unique topography! Each Saurian has its abilities, perfect for spicing up your adventures.

Saurians work hand in hand with another unique Natlan mechanic: Phlogiston. This fiery energy is the secret sauce that powers your Saurian shenanigans. Think of it as a special kind of stamina for your dino-self. While you can stay in Saurian form indefinitely, using their cool abilities will drain your Phlogiston bar. Don’t fret, though, because you can always replenish it by hunting down Phlogiston particles scattered across Natlan.

How Saurian Indwelling works

Indwelling is a piece of cake. Travellers just have to walk up to a Saurian until a glowing Spiritsconce symbol appears over its head. With a quick button press, you’ll transform right into one. Poof! You’re now a living, breathing Saurian. If you can’t find one nearby, you can look for Saurian totems left behind by these prehistoric friends.

Known Saurians and their abilities

As of Version 5.0, there are only 3 Saurians available in the game: the Tepetlisaurus from the Children of Echoes Tribe, the Yumkasaurus from the Scions of the Canopy Tribe, and the Koholasaurus from the People of the Springs Tribe. Let’s get to know each of them so you can use them effectively for exploration:

Genshin Impact Molten Fissure

Tepetlisaurus

Meet the Tepetlisaurus, Natlan’s rock-solid buddy. These brown, rocky-bodied dinos are the go-to pals for mountain climbing. They’re not just tough; they’re smart too! If you spot a Molten Fissure, these clever creatures will whisk you away to where it ends. Talk about a shortcut! These diggers can also burrow underground, letting you sneak around like a mole and uncover hidden treasures. Need to break stuff? Tepetlisaurus has got your back with its basic attack. Keep an eye out for dusty circles on the ground; they’re part of a puzzle that will net you treasure!

Genshin Impact Coilgrass Sigils

Yumkasaurus

The Yumkasaurus are the green speed demons of the Scions of the Canopy. These velociraptor-inspired cuties are all about reaching those hard-to-get spots. Their party trick? A super sticky tongue that lets them zip from cliff to cliff. You can even aim it for precision jumping! Keep an eye out for Coilgrass Sigils; they’re like nature’s taxi service for the Yumkasaurus. And if you’re feeling mischievous, stuff a Flamagranate in their mouth for a spicy surprise attack.

Genshin Impact Jet-Set Eddies

Koholasaurus

Last but not least, we’ve got the Koholasaurus, the shark-like swimmers of Natlan. These aquatic acrobats are your ticket to exploring Natlan’s watery wonders. They can leap to great heights using Jet-Set Eddies, those cool-ringed vortexes in the water. But the real magic happens when you hit the Spiritways—flowing Phlogiston highways that will zip you around faster than you can say “cannonball!” Need a speed boost? Their dash ability will have you zooming through the water like a torpedo. Just activate those Spiritways first, or you’ll be paddling the old-fashioned way.

Ways to replenish your Phlogiston

As mentioned earlier, Phlogiston is the fiery lifeblood of Saurian Indwelling. This valuable resource can be tracked using the Phlogiston meter, the orange glowing bars next to the Saurian’s body, and above the Traveller’s HP bar. Phlogiston management is essential because it’s not only Saurians that can use it; it is also shared across Natlan characters with unique movement features like Mualani. You don’t need to worry, though, because if you’re running low on Phlogiston, there are many ways to refill your meter!

  • Triggering the Everflame Seed
  • Touching a Flaming Seed of Phlogiston
  • Collecting Candlecap Mushrooms and Flamegranates
  • Collecting Crystal Beetles and Pyro Crystalflies
  • Destroying Phlogiston Piles and Phlogiston Explosive Barrels
  • Reaching Teleport Waypoints and Statues of the Seven in Natlan

Natlan’s Saurian Indwelling mechanic has made exploration, one of Genshin Impact’s defining facets, even more enjoyable and memorable. The freedom it gives Travellers to experience Natlan in their own way makes it a remarkable feature, and the fact that we’re yet to meet three more tribes and Saurians makes us super excited here at Codashop!
