Except for a few characters like Nilou and Kokomi, where you’ll do fine just by stacking a single stat, most Genshin Impact characters require you to balance a handful of damage modifiers before showing their full potential.
The simpler units often need ATK, Crit Rate, and Crit DMG, while the more complex ones require adding some Elemental Mastery, DEF, and HP. There are also Elemental DMG Bonuses that, in most cases, you’ll need to prioritize over ATK once it reaches a certain threshold. Building an optimal artifact set in Genshin Impact is a challenging task, and when you add the game’s abysmal artifact RNG, you may end up farming for months.
But that’s all in the past because Version 5.0 has a massive QOL update that will make you jump with joy like Klee does before any fish-blasting expedition. Say goodbye to endless farming and hello to perfect artifacts because, in this article, we’ll walk you through Genshin Impact’s new Sanctifying Elixir and explain how you can use this groundbreaking feature to craft your dream artifact set.
Genshin Impact’s artifact system
Artifacts are the cornerstone of character performance in Genshin Impact. They come in five types: Flower of Life, Plume of Death, Sands of Eon, Goblet of Eonothem, and Circlet of Logos. Each piece has a main stat and up to four sub-stats, which can significantly boost a character’s strength.
The main stat is determined by the artifact’s type, while sub-stats are randomly assigned. Upgrading artifacts requires Artifact EXP and Mora, with a full set of 5-star artifacts costing over a million of each to reach max level 20.
Artifact sets grant unique bonuses when equipped in certain combinations. The rarity of artifacts affects their overall quality, with higher rarity pieces offering better stats and more upgrade potential. Travellers can also use the Artifact Strongbox to recycle unwanted pieces and get a chance at getting better ones.
The randomness of sub-stats, the 5-artifact system, and the roster’s varying stat needs make artifact farming the most arduous part of Genshin Impact. Luckily, HoYoverse is giving us a new tool to freshen things up!

What is the Sanctifying Elixir?
The Sanctifying Elixir is a consumable material that allows you to craft artifacts with a main stat and up to 2 sub-stats of your choice, bidding farewell to the frustrating RNG of artifact farming. Players can snag one Sanctifying Elixir from the anniversary rewards, but there are more ways to obtain this magical potion.
The new Artifact Transmuter gadget lets Travellers destroy upgraded artifacts for Extraction Progress, which can net you one Sanctifying Elixir when pushed to 100. Travellers can also find these elixirs hidden in specific areas on Natlan, adding more excitement to their adventures. For those willing to spend, the Gnostic Hymn Battle Pass offers Sanctifying Elixirs at certain levels.

How to use the Artifact Transmuter
Besides converting your old, unwanted artifacts into Sanctifying Elixirs, the Artifact Transmuter also processes your elixirs, allowing you to craft new customized artifacts. The crafting cost varies from 1 elixir for Plume of Death artifacts to 4 elixirs for Goblets of Eonothem. There’s also a limit to how many elixirs you can obtain per cycle, so you must carefully pick the pieces you craft.
To make the most of this new feature, it’s best to decide what to craft only after activating the 2-piece or 4-piece stat bonus of your chosen artifact set or having at least 4 artifacts with great stats. This way, you can use your Sanctifying Elixirs to craft that elusive off-piece.
By significantly minimizing the effect of RNG in acquiring artifacts, the Sanctifying Elixir and Artifact Transmuter breathes new life into the Genshin Impact grind, making it more enjoyable and rewarding. The ability to choose a main stat and 2 out of 4 sub-stats is a big thing, especially with a complex Elemental Reaction system that amplifies even the most minute stat changes. Pair this feature with the introduction of World Level 9, and you have a match made in heaven. Have fun testing your new, improved builds on deadlier, tankier monsters, Traveller!
