After the successful release of Genshin Impact 4.0 and the much-awaited launch of the new area, Fontaine, Genshin Impact 4.1 brings a deeper dive into the city’s lore and its characters while introducing some new updates. If you’re one of the players who just can’t get enough of the realm of the Hydro Archon and its water-themed areas, then you’re in for a treat in version 4.1. Let’s break down all the latest events, characters, and quests that await players in Fontaine.
4.1 Character Banners
Of course, one of the biggest highlights of any new version of Genshin Impact is the featured character banners. Save up your Primogems for some exciting new characters as well as two fan-favourite units for the reruns. First up is the Hu Tao rerun that comes alongside a new character–Chief Justice of Fontaine Monsieur Neuvilette. As seen in the trailers, Neuvilette is a Hydro Catalyst user who can practically shoot a beam of water to attack his enemies.
After Hu Tao and Neuvilette’s banners, they are then followed by a rerun of Venti’s banner and the Cryo Catalyst user Wriothesley. This new character may be labelled as a Catalyst user, but he seems to be quite adept at using a pair of gauntlets in a fight.
New Weapons
For the weapon banners, we have the Tome of Eternal Flow for Neuvilette and the Staff of Homa for Hu Tao. Both signature weapons are capable of unleashing powerful Hydro and Pyro damage, respectively, making them perfect choices for their respective characters. For the second half of 4.1, Wriothesley’s signature weapon, Cashflow Supervision, will make its debut alongside Venti’s signature Elegy for the End.
There’s also a new weapon line introduced in the game that can be obtained through both Weapon Wish banners, namely:
New Fontaine Area Unlocked
A new version means new areas will be unlocked for Fontaine. In Genshin Impact 4.1, the Fontaine map will expand towards the east, revealing the previously incomplete regions on your map. This expansion will unlock The Fortress of Meropide, an underwater prison located in the Liffey Region of Fontaine, where players can embark on the next Archon quest and exploration. You’ll also be able to access a new cave area where some strange phenomena are occurring, providing new puzzles and challenges for players to solve.
New Bosses and Enemies
New areas also mean new enemies and bosses roaming around the map. The Experimental Field Generator and Millennial Pearl Seahorse are two of the new bosses that players will encounter in the expanded Fontaine area. These bosses will provide exciting and challenging battles for players to test their skills and strategies. The former seems to have some gravity-modifying mechanics, while the latter utilises Electro attacks to keep players on their toes.
Fatui activity seems to be at an all-time high in Fontaine, so expect to encounter a couple of new and challenging Fatui mini-bosses during your exploration. Watch out for the Seneschal of Frost, a Cryo-based unit and the Seneschal of Wind, which is an Anemo user.

Game System Updates – Adventure Encounters
Encounter Points is a new feature added in Version 4.1 that acts as an alternative way of getting rewards from your Daily Commissions. Players can earn Encounter Points for completing quests, participating in events, exploring the world, and collecting materials. These points are valid for only one day. So instead of going through the usual Daily Commissions, you can instead perform the following tasks to earn some Encounter Points:
- Fulfill event objectives
- Complete any type of quest
- Find and open treasure chests
- Collect Oculi or other collectible items
For each objective completed, a portion of Encounter Points required to progress will be earned. For example, obtaining an Oculi grants 1/2 of the Encounter Point, while opening a Common Chest results in a smaller amount.
