A sea of new content surges in Genshin Impact 4.0, and Travellers can finally set sail to the next chapter of their journey. The much-anticipated update opens the curtains to Fontaine with new artifacts, weapons, and a slew of new features and mechanics, but today, we will direct the spotlight to the latest 5-star character, Lyney.
In this article, we will look into his abilities and playstyle to help you decide if he fits your current roster well.
Lyney’s Background
Lyney, the Spectacle of Phantasmagoria, is a skillful and ingenious magician from Fontaine. He has a twin sister named Lynette and another sibling named Freminet. Before being adopted by Arlecchino’s House of the Hearth, he learned his tricks in the streets of Fontaine under the tutelage of Cesar.
Lyney’s deceptive nature makes him a pretty interesting character, and his Fatui ties lead us to question his true intentions. Is he working to realize a sinister Fatui plot, or are they working for the greater good? That’s for Travellers to find out in Version 4.0’s Archon Quests.
Lyney’s Kit and Playstyle
Lyney is a Pyro Bow user whose main damage source is his Charged Attack, Card Force Translocation. This gives him a unique mechanic wherein he can sacrifice a portion of his health in exchange for damage buffs. His 4th Ascension Passive makes Lyney shine as it vastly increases his DPS based on the number of Pyro characters in his team.
Normal Attack: Card Force Translocation
Lyney performs up to 4 consecutive shots with a bow. His Charged Attack has two Charge Levels:
- Charge Level 1: lets loose a Pyro-infused arrow, dealing Pyro DMG upon impact.
- Charge Level 2: fires off a Pyro-infused arrow and summons a Grin-Malkin Hat.
If Lyney has more than 60% of his HP when he casts a Level 2 Charged Attack, he consumes a portion of his HP to obtain 1 Prop Surplus Stack.
Elemental Skill: Bewildering Lights
Lyney unleashes a barrage of fireworks, detonating the Grin-Malkin Hat and dealing Pyro DMG based on his current Prop Surplus Stacks. Lyney regains his lost HP after using Bewildering Lights.
Elemental Burst: Wondrous Trick: Miracle Parade
Lyney turns into a Grin-Malkin Cat, sending flames falling down on nearby opponents. Deals one instance of Pyro DMG to each opponent and grants Lyney 1 Prop Surplus Stack.
4th Ascension Passive: Conclusive Ovation:
Increases Lyney’s DMG by 60% when hitting opponents affected by Pyro. Increases Lyney’s DMG by an additional 20% for each Pyro unit in his team.
Best team comp
Main DPS: Lyney
Sub-DPS: Xiangling
Support/Healer: Bennett
Support: Kazuha/Zhongli
In this team comp, the Pyro trio of Lyney, Xiangling, and Bennett, ensures Lyney makes the most of his Conclusive Ovation passive. Xiangling provides increased damage output with Pyronado, while Bennett brings healing and ATK-buffs with Fantastic Voyage. The fourth slot can house a Kazuha for crowd-control and Elemental DMG buffs or Zhongli to ensure the team performs their rotations smoothly without interruption.
Best weapon
Best 5-star option: The First Great Magic (Signature bow)
Base ATK: 608
Crit DMG: 66.2%
Increases Charged Attack damage by 16% and ATK by 16% for each party member with the same elemental type as the wielder (caps at three stacks). Lyney’s damage potential scales off of ATK, making a wide array of 5-star weapons a viable option for him. Other bows like Polar Star, Aqua Simulacra, and Amos’ Bow are all good stat sticks for him.
Best 4-star option: Prototype Crescent
Base ATK: 510
ATK: 41.3%
Charged Attacks on weak points increase movement speed by 10% and ATK by 36%.
Best artifacts
Lyney’s single-stat scaling also makes him an easy character to build, with many artifact options to choose from. If you don’t have access to the Marechaussee Hunter Set yet, you can equip a 4-piece Lavawalker Set or a 4-piece Retracing Bolide Set if you run him with Zhongli.
Marechaussee Hunter Set
2-piece bonus: Normal and Charged Attack DMG +15%
4-piece bonus: When your current HP decreases or increases, Crit Rate will be increased by 12% for 5 seconds. Caps at three stacks.
All in all, Lyney is a powerful Pyro unit with enormous damage potential and a straightforward kit and playstyle. His focus on Pyro damage also makes him an F2P-friendly pick, with Xiangling being a free unit and Bennett coming in as a guaranteed reward for completing the Mega Meka Melee event this 4.0.
Travellers can get Lyney in his own Character Event Wish, “Conjuring Chiaroscuro,” with 4-stars Barbara, Bennett, and Lynette until September 5, 2023. Visit Codashop now for your Genesis Crystals top-ups to enjoy a fast and safe gaming experience!
